Jessica Walsh - Make Your Own Rules
Jessica Walsh - Make Your Own Rules
How can we use play to its fullest to inform and develop – both our creative work, and our careers as designers? Just where do we draw the line between endless possibility and a structured set of rules? We’ll find out the answers and more when Jessica Walsh visits us for this exploration of creativity, play, rule-making and rule-breaking. We’ll gather at the new, cozy venue Revolution Hall (at revamped Washington High School), where Walsh will speak about play as a tool for creativity and innovation, and how it was — and still is — instrumental to her own process and career path. She’ll share her own methods of encouraging creativity through rule-making, and in a special presentation of recent work, she’ll reveal when she follows those rules — and when the best solution is to break them. Copies of Jessica Walsh’s book 40 Days of Dating will also be available to purchase.

Jessica Walsh, at age 25, became partner at one of the most well-known, most innovative design firms in the world — NYC-based Sagmeister & Walsh. Walsh, a graphic designer, art director and illustrator, focuses on branding, typography, and art installations at the company, where her work for clients from Levis to Adobe to the Jewish Museum of New York has been described as “bold, emotional and provocative.” Her designs have won awards from the Type Director’s Club, Art Director’s Club, SPD, Print, and Graphis, and she’s received distinctions including Computer Art’s “Top Rising Star in Design” and an ADC “Young Gun.” Her social experiment with fellow designer Tim Goodman, 40 Days of Dating, is also in the works as a film.
