Live Wire 15th Anniversary Show with guests Lindy West + Courtenay Hameister + Pink Martini
Live Wire 15th Anniversary Show with guests Lindy West + Courtenay Hameister + Pink Martini
The 15th anniversary installment of Portland's own nationally-syndicated radio show features appearances from Lindy West, Courtney Hameister and genre-crossing "little orchestra" Pink Martini. Hosted by Luke Burbank.
LINDY WEST
LINDY WEST
When Lindy West talks, you listen. West is the best-selling author of the memoir "Shrill", which recently became a widely-lauded original series on Hulu starring Aidy Bryant. Her singular voice and writing has appeared in The Stranger, The Guardian, and as a contributing Op-Ed writer for The New York Times. Her new book, "The Witches Are Coming," an incisive look at how intolerance and misogyny have infected our culture, will be released in the fall of 2019. West's essential and distinctive voice cuts through the noise, and we always want to hear more.
PINK MARTINI
PINK MARTINI
If you’re looking for an epic, international, continent-crossing good time, then you’ve found it with the music of Pink Martini. Founded by Portland native Thomas Lauderdale in 1994 to provide beautiful and inclusive music for political fundraisers, the “little orchestra” now features a dozen musicians who have performed the band’s multilingual repertoire with symphony orchestras throughout the world. Now far eclipsing Lauderdale’s original vision, the band has played sold-out shows at Carnegie Hall, been inducted into the Hollywood Bowl AND Oregon Music Halls of Fame, and their first song, “Sympathique” remains, to this day, a mantra for striking French workers. Our political affiliation? We always vote for the type of party Pink Martini has been throwing for twenty-five years now.
COURTENAY HAMEISTER
COURTENAY HAMEISTER
When faced with fear, author Courtenay Hameister chooses to turn and fight – by wrestling her experiences with anxiety and imposter syndrome into poignant and hilarious essays that help light the way for others. The beloved former host and head writer for Live Wire, Courtenay writes a column for The Portland Mercury called “What’s She Mad About Now,” and is the co-writer for the web series “The Benefits of Gusbandry.” Her first book, “Okay Fine Whatever: The Year I Went From Being Afraid of Everything to Only Being Afraid of Most Things” was released in July. Her essays fly in the face of fear and we are here for it.
